Selfridge Treasures

Absolutely LOVING the 25% off Diva jewellery collection they got goin’ on at Miss Selfridge at the moment… never seen so much beautiful discount jewellery in one place. Looks as if they’ve stepped up their innovative movements with some really interesting statement pieces that will definitely grab some attention - surprising since last time I browsed their jewellery collections I was disappointed in the samey-ness and Primark-style copying of everything else I’d seen on the high street. This time, it’s like nothing I’ve seen before. So yes there’s still the Art Deco- and tribal/Aztec-inspired theme which is everywhere at the moment, but as well as that a braver jump into the pool of Surrealism and some really unusual and eye-catching pieces. Very impressed. The silver chain bra will be in my drawer within the week.

Elderly habits die hard

A jolly good friend of mine and I were thinking of doing a street style piece on… no not the usual hipster-types, but rather the senior citizens. I admire the older generation for the fact that a lot of things they are wearing have of course come back around in the fashion cycle, hence my frequent ganders to the local charity or vintage shop. Rather than taking the piss out of the standard ‘granny cardi’ it is now embraced. Even Hugh Heffner-style slippers have popped out of nowhere and onto the high street. I feel my life’s work is to take the granny cardi and other similarly timeless items and add a little modern twist: chunky gold hoops, or my personalised Nike ID creps or neon pink leotard for example. So it looks like you’re wearing your great-grandma’s curtains? Well without your great-grandma, style wouldn’t be what it is today.
